A joke, right?
This must have been an April Fools’ joke.
I’m talking about the report (Tribune-Herald, April 1) that government officials and their employees might be held accountable by a new commission formed after Rep. Ty Cullen and Sen. Kalani English recently pleaded guilty to taking cash bribes.
Forming the commission is not the hard part. That’s mostly talk, talk, talk. You know virtue signaling. They have no problem forming commissions, funding new positions, studies, etc., but when I hear talk of term limits, I have to laugh and believe it was an April Fools’ joke.
Government officials, be it national or local, will never vote to limit their own power.
But humor me with this request. Make sure that any government official or their employees lose their pensions and all other government perks, health care and so on, when caught with their hands in the cookie jar!

Good one
I read with great interest the article, “Hawaii panel promotes steps to improve conduct in government” (Tribune Herald, April 1).
This preliminary report by a worthy group was received by House Speaker Scott Saiki, who said he appreciates the panel’s work, and he’ll take it from here. No need for anyone to worry.
Then I noticed the date and realized the joke was on me!
I looked for a companion article about “Mr. Fox in charge of henhouse security,” but could not find it!
Did I miss something?

‘In great hands’
If the recent Hawaii Fire Department audit was on the human factor, they would have passed with flying colors.
These are a great bunch of people, well-trained and ready to respond, whether it be a fire or a health emergency.
From my personal experience, these are highly professional people. Should you ever need their help, no fear, you’ll be in great hands.
And for the record, the same goes for the Hawaii Police Department. I know, there have been some bad apples, but the vast majority are fine men and women.
Dealing with the public day in and day out is not an easy task, and when we need help, who we gonna call? Not the Ghostbusters, that’s for sure.
